Chief Executive Officer
Marcel Vernon, Sr. serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA), bringing over three decades of leadership experience across the hospitality industry, government, higher education, and nonprofit sectors.
A dynamic and visionary executive, Marcel is known for driving strategic growth through innovative problem-solving, financial acumen, and people-focused leadership. His career spans leadership roles at iconic hospitality brands including Marriott, Harrah’s Entertainment, Mohegan Sun, and Tropicana Entertainment, as well as public service roles with the Massachusetts Trial Court, Department of Revenue, and the University of New Hampshire. His work has taken him across the globe, with projects in the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Poland, and Ukraine. Before joining MCCA, Marcel served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance at Bay Cove Human Services, where he managed 174 facilities serving more than 25,000 people annually.
Marcel holds a Master’s degree in Finance and International Business from Syracuse University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Colgate University. He is a proud member of the Whitman School of Business Advisory Council at Syracuse University and also serves on advisory boards for Labouré College of Healthcare, The Printing Press Lofts and Boston Harbor Now. Marcel’s leadership continues to shape the MCCA’s mission of creating world-class experiences while maximizing economic impact for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
