Nerdfighters will gather in Boston this weekend

Brothers John and Hank Green will be in Boston this weekend for “NerdCon: Nerdfighteria,” which is billed as “the first-ever official Nerdfighter convention and celebration of 10 years of nerdfighting.” The convention’s website explains, “It is a giant celebration of all things nerdy, creative, educational, fun, and weird.”

The event will be held Friday and Saturday at the Hynes Convention Center. Tickets are $60 for the weekend.

The Nerdfighter concept started a decade ago, when the Greens became big YouTube stars. John Green (inset) is also known for his young adult novels, which include “Looking for Alaska,” “The Fault in Our Stars,” and “Paper Towns.”

Guests at the convention will include writer and YouTuber Akilah Hughes; human sexuality doc Lindsey Doe, of the Hank Green-produced video series “Sexplanations”; Joe DeGeorge, of the “Harry Potter”-inspired band Harry and the Potters; and comedian and author Hannah Hart.

Also at the convention — in the exhibit hall — will be Quincy’s Lori and Wayne Earl, parents of late nerdfighter Esther Earl, whose story inspired “The Fault in Our Stars.” The Earls will be manning a booth for This Star Won't Go Out, an organization benefiting families of children dealing with cancer.
