Ayla Brown, Rob Bellamy making sweet music together

Former “American Idol” singer and country music star Ayla Brown performed for Boston Herald Radio on the Lawn on D yesterday with her boyfriend, Rob Bellamy.

During the pair’s first live performance on Herald Radio, the duo discussed how they’ve written close to a dozen songs together.

Brown, daughter of former Bay State U.S. Senator and current Ambassador to New Zealand Scott Brown and TV journalist Gail Huff, said she cherishes her musical background — something her singing partner didn’t develop at a young age.

“I was in chorus in school, in a capella group and stuff like that,” Brown said. “He didn’t have the group harmony training that I got.”

And though Bellamy, a professional hockey-player-turned-signer-songwriter, admitted he wished he had played guitar when he was younger, he said, “I don’t regret anything. I’ve met so many great people playing hockey.”

The pair met down in Nashville, despite both of their New England backgrounds, and hit it off when they started writing music together.
